One person remains in critical condition in a hospital after a shooting over the weekend, according to Oklahoma City police.
Three other people were also hit by gunfire in the shooting near SW 59th and Agnew Avenue, but they were not seriously hurt.
Police taped off the shopping center parking lot after responding to a shots fired call early Sunday morning. A large party was being held at an event center.
“They said there had been close to 100 vehicles that had been at the event center that evening,” said Sgt. Megan Morgan, Oklahoma City Police Department.
The owner of the event center confirmed there was a party there Saturday evening that went late into the night, but said the shooting started in the parking lot.
People who live near the event center heard the gunshots.
“Three or four at least,” said Jim Green, resident. “It was quite a few and it was really loud so I knew it was close.”
Police said there were four shooting victims in all. Three of the victims showed up at a nearby hospital on their own and one was taken by EMSA to OU Medical Center in critical condition.
Employees of other businesses in the building said they are surprised the gathering turned violent.
“It’s really surprising because it’s families that are at these parties,” said Hunter Green, business employee. “They actually hold these parties every weekend.”
Others said unfortunately they are used to hearing gunshots in the area.
“It’s not the first time guns go off here,” said Green. “They go off all the time.”
Witnesses described the suspected shooter as a Hispanic male driving a gray, older model Chevrolet pickup.
