For the first time, the Tulsa SPCA is holding its "Clear the Shelter Month" virtually.

The organization said the pandemic is making it harder to get animals into homes.

"It's just always nice to see that moment when an adopter kind of falls in love,” Mindy Tiner from the Tulsa SPCA said.

Prospective pet owners can go on the Tulsa SPCA's website to look at available animals, then fill out the application. Once approved, and with a few extra steps, the adoption is processed.

"The adopter comes with the animal in the afternoon and we kind of pass the animal off,” Tiner said.

According to the SPCA, funding has been down, partly from adoption revenue and partly from having to cancel several fundraising events.

"When COVID first started, we stopped intake, so we weren't taking animals in,” Tiner said.

Since people don't get to meet the pets until they adopt, Tiner said they have a relaxed return policy.

If you would like to adopt an animal, visit the website here.
