Watch: Governor Stitt Gives COVID-19 Update, Announces Additional Guidelines

Governor Stitt gave an update on COVID-19 in Oklahoma and announced additional guidelines at a news conference on Thursday.

Gov. Stitt said "we are seeing some really positive trends. Our seven-day average of new cases is down 39% since August 1st."

Stitt went on to speak about the importance of schools in Oklahoma.

"In-person learning is essential for our children and families," Governor Stitt said.

The Governor called on all Oklahomans to help due their part in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Commissioner of Health Dr. Lance Frye said he was issuing a public health advisory called Safer In Oklahoma.

"I am issuing a public health advisory calling on all Oklahomans to strengthen our commitment on combating COVID-19," Frye said. "Through this advisory, we are enforcing our public health precautions including continued increased state testing capacity in order to preform more tests and to have all test results with a turnaround time of 48-78 hours."

Dr. Frye said the Oklahoma State Department of Health will continue to develop its data system.

Dr Frye also said " If a county is in red or orange in our COVID-19 alert system, it is recommended that all individuals ages 11 and older wear face coverings over their nose and mouth in all public places."
