Fall sports are set to go on this fall for student athletes. The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association chose not to delay or cancel the sports season.

The agenda Wednesday said the board would discuss and take possible action for fall sports. After the discussion, there was no vote or action taken which means sports will continue.

"Our original thought in June let's go forward with our activities as scheduled and be prepared to make adjustments as we go," said David Jackson Executive Director of Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.

While school boards voted whether to begin the school year in-person or virtual learning, Jackson said school leaders were also filling out surveys about fall sports.

"The survey, both of them seemed to indicate that's what the schools are wanting to see," said Jackson.

Volleyball, fast pitch softball, fall baseball, cross country, and football will all go on this fall. Some board members said some rural schools seemed hesitant traveling into metro areas.

"They want us to travel to them, but they don't want to be in our area they want to stay away from hot spots. I don't know if that led to it but I know that we had a lot of trouble getting people to come and they just wanted to come to them," said Cecilia Woods.
