The University of Central Oklahoma will begin welcoming back students to campus on Saturday. Stampede Week begins next weekend with a variety of events for students.

Social distancing will be enforced on move-in days to provide safety for incoming students. Everyone on campus will be required to wear masks. Hand sanitizer will be provided.

Students will see some of the biggest changes during Stampede Week.

Events, which include movie nights and comedy shows, could bring crowds. Many of them will be offered virtually this year.

The university said many of the events will still be interactive, even when online.

"There is a student population that we don't always serve as much, and that is our online and distance learners,” University of Central Oklahoma Associate Director of Student Engagement Caleb Cash said. “They want to be involved on campus and want to be at events. But because they are online, they don't come out.”

Students who show up to Stampede Week events in person must follow social distancing protocols.

Spacing at these events will be limited. The university said they have overflow rooms for any extra crowds that exceed the limits.

For future years, UCO said they hope to continue to offer virtual options for welcome week events, instead of making it a onetime deal due to COVID-19.
