BIXBY -

A Bixby Youth Football player tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Chad Lott, the Commissioner for the Indian Nation Football Conference, said they oversee 37 clubs, which makes up 264 football teams.

“It’s a challenging time for Sports Directors,” Lott said.

Lott said the conference uses several municipal and school facilities and does its best to keep its own guidelines synched up with theirs.

The Bixby Youth Football Association has suspended the team from all activities for 14 days, including practice.

The suspension is a protocol that all clubs follow in the INFC. Lott said the conference also recommends parents masks and practice social distancing.

“Oklahoma seems to be a more conservative State. The masks aren’t as prevalent here than some of the others,” he said.

Even with the risk of COVID-19, Lott said he’s seen a surprising growth in registration.

If no other player, coach, or parent shows symptoms or tested positive after the 14-day suspension, the team will be allowed back to practice.

Lott said the official football schedule should be out within the next two weeks.
