UPDATE: Mayor Bynum delays the potential removal of the Black Lives Matter mural until August 19, pending further discussion.
The Mayor's office said, "today, the Tulsa City Council proposed additional discussion and possible action on this issue on August 19. Out of respect for the City Council’s Charter Authority, the Mayor will await guidance from the City Council on August 19 before proceeding with any action."
Tulsa city councilors say they'll discuss the Black Lives Matter mural on Greenwood after announcing plans to remove it.
The agenda doesn't provide much clarity on what the discussion is going to look like. It lists the topic as a "discussion regarding hazardous conditions and circumstances as related to paintings on public streets" and directly references the mural.
The city announced last week that it would need to be removed after they received requests for other statements to be painted on other streets. Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum says he heard from the president of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Dr Freeman Culver who wanted the mural removed but Dr. Culver denies saying that.
