Enid police are searching for two people who they say broke into a home, shot a man and assaulted a pregnant woman.

The man remains in critical condition.

In light of what happened, concerned neighbors said they planned to arm themselves.

Concerned citizens told News 9 after their quiet neighborhood was turned upside down they aren't taking any chances.

“I know I slept with a gun in my hand the rest of the night,” said neighbor Lilla Skaggs.

“We are going to arm ourselves and get pepper spray and keep a lookout,” said another concerned neighbor Jeana Copeland.

After a call to 911 residents said police swarmed the neighborhood.

“You've got the streets lined with cop cars it's pretty scary,” said Copeland.

“I saw them bring one patient out on a gurney,” said Skaggs.

Inside the home police said a man was shot, a pregnant woman was beaten, and two juveniles were threatened with a gun.

“The scene was very chaotic, people are crying, what you expect from a shooting scene,” said Enid Police Sgt. Nick John.

According to investigators, the residents were sleeping when two armed, masked men forced their way in and left with a lot of money.

“I don't know if it was someone they knew, or could it have been drug-related? I don't think it was, but we're scared,” said Copeland.

Lilla Skaggs said prior to the chaos she was stirred awake.

“My dogs woke me up, there was a couple people walking on the street,” said Skaggs.

She looked outside and saw two men in all black. She now believes they may have been gunman.

Neighbors are now hoping for swift arrests.

“Break-ins are one thing, but shootings are on another level,” said Copeland.

Both suspects are believed to be 18 to 22 years old. They were wearing black clothes, masks, and backpacks.

The victims said one of them suffered from severe acne on his forehead and neck.
