COVID-19 Slows Down Plans For Future Tulsa Fire Museum

The pandemic is slowing down plans for a future Tulsa fire museum and the board is looking for donations to move forward.

The museum board owns the old Tulsa fire alarm building and they want to turn it into a full-fledged museum with artifacts showing the fire department's history. They'd also like to host fire safety classes at the museum. The board says they planned on several fundraising and community events this year but the pandemic messed up a lot of those plans and put them behind on donations.

"We have to bring the building up to ADA compliance and code and to do that, we have to have a secondary entrance that's wheelchair accessible," said board member Amanda Dunn. "We are going to expand onto the building to have a children's center and mainly get that second entrance in there before we can even think of opening up to the public."

Dunn says they're working on a few online fundraisers right now, along with the 20-21 firefighter calendar, to bring in more money.
