Green Country is seeing heat indexes in the triple digits this week. EMSA said it has responded to many heat-related calls since its heat alert has been in effect since last Wednesday.

"If your body is telling you, you need to slow down, listen to it," said Nick Coffman with EMSA.

There are things EMSA recommends to stay safe as you enjoy the summer.

Paramedics said their first tip is to listen to your body. They suggest hydrating before you go into the sun and not to walk into triple digit heat unprepared. Wear light and loose clothing. If you can avoid the hottest parts of the day, do it! If you will be in the heat, take breaks and bring water.

"When we are talking about hydration we are talking about water. Sports drinks can play a role in getting some of those electrolytes. We are not talking about iced tea. We are not talking about soda. We are not talking about energy drinks. We are not talking about anything with alcohol in it," said Coffman.

Paramedics also said as temperatures rise, it's important to watch out for elderly people in our lives and small children. They said elderly people and children are high-risk populations, whose bodies might have a tougher time dealing with the heat.
