OKCPS students will have the option of traditional learning in the classroom or virtual learning when school begins on August 10.

The district thinks as many as one third of its 45,000 students will choose virtual learning.

Social distancing will practiced in the classroom, at lunch and during recess.

Teachers and staff must wear a mask.

Students will be encouraged to wear a mask, but it's not a requirement. The district did not want to discipline wearing a mask.

“That was one of the more difficult decisions," said Jason Brown, OKCPS deputy superintendent.

The district is using $14 million in CARES Act funding to provide every student with a tablet and buy hot spots to improve connectivity.

The devices have already started arriving, district leaders said.

There will also be more nurses, counselors and social workers at school compared to years past.

“We want parents to know we will have we want you to do we will have all eyes on our kids from a mental health standpoint as well as an academics standpoint,” said Sean McDaniel, OKCPS superintendent.
