Okla. Congresswoman Kendra Horn Calls OESC Lines 'Heartbreaking'

Another long line wrapped around the Oklahoma Employment Security Commissioner Friday morning.

Many people arrived as early as 8 p.m. Thursday to get in line.

The OESC recently has made it known they will only be accepting 170 walk ins from now on.

People were prepared Friday, bringing lawn chairs, coffee and even tents for the long wait ahead.

The long lines have caused a stir with many around Oklahoma, including Congresswoman Kendra Horn, who is calling the lines “heartbreaking.”

"We need Oklahoma, we need the OESC to get these families the help that they need. I mean it's been three months since we passed the CARES Act, three months," said the congresswoman.

For some people in line, it was just too much. News 9 talked to one man who decided to pack things up and try another day.

"I came up here all-day Monday. I was here eight hours, and nothing was resolved. So I thought I would come today. Too long a line, I can't stay," said Reggie Dowdy.

OESC Interim Director Shelley Zumwalt said they will open the Reed Center in Midwest City next week to help more jobless Oklahomans get unemployment benefits. The center will be open starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
