Man Arrested, Accused Of Choking & Raping Woman He Met On Tinder Dating App

Oklahoma City police arrested a man last week after he was accused of raping a woman he met on a dating app.

Sex crimes detectives were able to collect evidence not only from the victim, but from the hotel room where the attack reportedly happened.

Police said the date was arranged through the Tinder dating app. That was where the victim met 38-year-old David Cook. She told police he went by James.

According to the report, Cook and the woman met up at Texas Roadhouse in northwest Oklahoma City for dinner. At one point during the dinner, the woman said she "started feeling tipsy" from several drinks and tequila shots that Cook ordered for her.

The woman told police she agreed to meet him at his place after dinner. It turned out being a hotel on south Interstate 35.

“It was while she was at the hotel with him that he made sexual advances toward her, she said 'No,'” said Master Sgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “At that point, he began to force himself on her, ended up raping her.”

The victim told investigators that during the assault, Cook put one hand around her neck "causing her difficulty of breathing, she felt dizzy and lightheaded." He told her to shut up and put both of his around her neck. The victim tried to get away but she said he grabbed her, choking her for a third time.

“Ultimately, she was able to get away from him and that’s when she went back home,” said Knight. “Apparently, she told a roommate about it, told a friend about it.”

The victim went to a metro hospital where they did a sexual assault exam. An investigator on the case noted the victim had "bruising around her neck consistent with strangulation" and a "wound on her lip from being bit."

Police were able to find Cook and arrested him on one complaint of forcible rape.

Police will turn their investigation over to the Oklahoma County district attorney's office for prosecution.
