A Midwest City woman's life was cut short Tuesday at the Fairfax apartments near NE 10th and Midwest Boulevard.
Investigators have little information about the suspect and asked the public to come forward with information.
Investigators did not indicate if the shooting was random or if someone followed the Nicosha Nelson, 25, home early Tuesday morning.
Midwest City police were called to the apartment complex after someone heard gunshots. Most of the residents inside the gated complex were asleep when police showed up to investigate.
Demetrius Jones learned later in the day that something tragic happened to one of his neighbors.
“I think it’s tragic anytime someone’s life is cut short like that,” said Jones. “Especially a young person.”
Police said shortly after Nelson returned to her apartment, an armed suspect fired into her window. Nelson was taken to a local hospital where she died.
Investigators do not have any eye-witnesses to the deadly shooting but the apartment complex does have security cameras. Residents hope police quickly find out why Nelson was targeted and catch whoever was responsible for her death.
“(It's) very unusual and not typical of these apartments,” said Jones. “They’re very quiet, very peaceful.”
Even though Jones did not know the victim well, he had this to say to those missing her.
“My heart just goes out to the family, the children,” said Jones. “You know the loved ones and friends.”
Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Midwest City Police Department at 405-739-1306.
