TULSA, Okla. - This Saturday Tulsa Farmers' Market will reopen.

The market makes it possible for families to buy directly from local farmers.

"There is nothing like fresh, Oklahoma grown fruits and vegetables," said Tulsa Farmers' Market Financial Director Penni Shelton.

Shelton said there is just something about doing some of your grocery shopping in the open air that is good for the soul.

"It is one of those things that so many families have brought their children up doing. Every Saturday morning, especially if they live in the area, put their kids in the wagon, come down to Cherry Street," said Shelton.

The Tulsa Farmers' Market has been around for more than 20 years.

"We are the largest farmers market in the state," said Shelton.

The market has been temporality suspended because of COVID-19 but this Saturday, they are opening back up for the 2020 season.

"We are ready. We are ready to hit the ground running and the farmers are certainly ready because June is typically local food month in Oklahoma, and it is when all the produce is at the peak," said Shelton.

Shopping is going to be a little bit different this year:

  1. Vendors will be at least 10 feet from each other
  2. The first hour of the day is solely for high risk customers (7am-9am)
  3. Entry and exit points will be on either end of Admiral
  4. All vendors are wearing face masks and shoppers are encouraged to as well
  5. Don't touch the products! Allow the vendor to bag your items for you.
  6. There will be hand sanitizer at every booth
  7. No samples unless they are prepackaged
  8. No entertainment booth
  9. Practice social distancing
  10. *Some* vendors may be doing card or cash only

"As we are moving back into re-opening, I think we will find our sweet spot and I think our customers will as well," said Shelton.

Normally, the farmers market is on Cherry Street but because of the construction there right now, it's being moved to Kendall Whittier.
