Oklahoma City police are investigating a murder at the Raindance Apartments near Northwest 122nd Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. One victim was found on Wednesday with wounds consistent with homicide, according to police. No arrests have been made.
A shooting that possibly started on one side of the apartment complex ended with a victim in a drainage ditch at the front of the property. A resident called police after making the startling discovery.
“Officers arrived near a creek at that apartment complex,” said Sgt. Megan Morgan, Oklahoma City Police Department. “They located the body of a deceased black male. At this time, we don’t have an identity.”
Investigators marked the areas where shooting evidence was left behind. They also combed the ditch where the body was left. Police are looking into how the victim wound up on the other side of the complex.
Residents learned the shooting happened early Wednesday morning, but police were called out hours later.
“I was already stopped by detectives,” said Micah Shaw, resident. “They asked me if I heard anything at four in the morning and I said ‘No’ I was asleep.”
Shaw said he just recently moved to the apartments and thought it was a safe and secure place.
“Because we have a gated community with security patrolling,” said Shaw. “But must not be that safe.”
Seeing the crime tape in multiple areas of the complex made Shaw wonder what else was going on.
“I saw the police cars at the gate and all the tape,” said Shaw. “So, I assumed something happened, but I didn’t know it was an actual murder. That’s kind of crazy.
