Residents, Community Leaders Demand Local Officials To Act After Death Of George Floyd

The demonstrations in response to the death of George Floyd in police custody continued into late Saturday afternoon as protestors left the Interstate 44 area and headed back towards Brookside.

The protest wrapped up just after 4 p.m. Saturday.

At the end of the route, Reverend Robert Turner and other leaders led protestors in chants and talked about demanding change right here in Tulsa. 

Protestors had planned to march to Mayor G.T. Bynum’s house but changed course. Officers said the mayor was not at his residence. 

Protestors said they want police and city leaders to take action.

“We’re asking you to look and act, not just talk,” protestor Duke Durant said. “We don’t want to just talk anymore. Cash that check in that got our bodies on it. Cash that check in that got our labor on it. Cash that check in that got our blood on it.” 

“My heart just keeps breaking and worrying for my friends of color that have told me they got pulled over and were legitimately fearful for their lives,” protestor Kelsey Cooper said. “It sucks. I want to be there for everybody.”
