Police, OSBI Investigating After Officer-Involved Shooting In Wilburton

One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Latimer County.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said an officer was called to the Casey's General Store in Wilburton around 8 p.m. Wednesday after someone saw a man walking along Highway 2 and Main Street who they believed to be intoxicated. 

The OSBI said once the officer got to the location and activated his lights, 30-year-old Alexander Scott threw a bottle at the car and started to walk toward the driver's side door.

The OSBI said when the officer got out of the car, Scott stabbed him several times in the neck and shoulder.

The officer got his gun and shot at Scott.

After EMS and other officers arrived, Scott was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was then taken to a McAlester hospital but has since been released.

The OSBI said Scott had previously been arrested in Latimer County and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and resisting an officer.

Wilburton Police told News On 6 this is their first officer-involved shooting in 21 years. 

The OSBI is still investigating.
