Woman Arrested After Telling Police She Shot Ex-Boyfriend In The Head

A man is dead after being shot in the head by his ex-girlfriend, according to authorities.

Around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Payne County dispatchers received a call from Ragina Armstrong, 51, saying she had shot her ex-boyfriend.

Investigators responded to a former bar; now medical grow operation located in the 3100 block of S. Twin Mounds Road in Yale.

John Atkinson, 44, was found dead inside the building.

Armstrong was arrested. She told investigators she shot Atkinson in self-defense.

“She gave up without incident,” said Payne County Sheriff, Kevin Woodward. “She put the gun down inside the business and came out and met the officers there. We did find a deceased male just inside the business.”

Atkinson’s father said he had no idea his son and ex-girlfriend were having trouble.

“I met the girl one time,” said Atkinson’s father. “Her and my son flew down and visited me, stayed the weekend, they left. That is the last time I saw my son.”

Payne County Sheriff deputies say domestic calls aren’t as high as anticipated with everyone quarantined.

Anyone experiencing a domestic situation is urged to call 911.

“Payne County just got text to 911 so if you can’t talk on 911, you can text 911,” said Woodward. “It is another feature that we have here in Payne County that people have already been using.”

Armstrong remains in Payne County Jail.

The sheriff’s office will present their report to the district attorney’s office Thursday morning who will determine if any criminal charges will be filed.
