A preliminary hearing has been set for a Blackwell police officer indicted in connection with a deadly officer-involved shooting.
The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Feb. 18 at the Noble County Courthouse in Perry. The location for the preliminary hearing was agreed upon in advance by the judge, prosecutors and the defense attorney.
In December 2019, Lt. John Mitchell was indicted by a grand jury on a second-degree murder or first-degree manslaughter charge in connection with the death of Micheal Ann Godsey.
According to the report, the deadly shooting occurred in May 2019 during a pursuit involving Godsey. She reportedly shot at another officer.
The pursuit ended with Godsey fatally shot as she was driving.

Since the indictment, Mitchell has gotten an outpouring of support from the state Fraternal Order of Police.
