Man Dies In OKC Police Custody After Incident At Okla. Co. Jail

The Oklahoma City Police Department reported an in-custody death after an incident at the Oklahoma County Jail.

The Oklahoma City Police Department reported an in-custody death after an incident at the Oklahoma County Jail.

According to authorities, around 3 a.m. Thursday morning officers were to SW Medical Center on an unrelated call, when they were notified of a combative patient who had allegedly assaulted medical personnel at the hospital.

Oklahoma City police arrested the suspect, identified as 56-year-old Olain Jefferson. Jefferson was taken to the Oklahoma County Jail.

Authorities said while still in OKC police custody Jefferson was involved in a minor use of force with Oklahoma County Jail personnel. According to the report, during that time Jefferson suffered a medical event. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner's office is working to determine the cause of death.
