It has been two months since the Schieffer family has been in the same room as Bernice, the family matriarch.
“(I) kissed her on the top of her head and hugged her and said, ‘I’ll be in touch,’ but (I) haven’t touched her since then," Marilyn Stroup, one of Bernice’s five children, said.
But they have seen her, thanks to The Welcome Window, a place friends and family can see and talk to residents.
The program began after the Perry Green Valley Nursing Home went on lockdown in March.
The opportunity to see their mother and grandmother means everything on Mother's Day.
“I think there’s nothing that a mother wants more on Mother’s Day than to see their family,” Perry Green Valley Nursing Home marketing director CC Crane said. “You can see those sparkles in the eyes. We know we’re making a difference here.”
Perry Green Valley Nursing Home said there are zero cases of COVID-19 at the nursing home.
