The sales haven’t stopped at Greg Darnell Ford in Midwest City.
It’s namesake said business has been good lately, in part thanks to 0% interest rate, so now the dealership is taking some of those sales and giving them back to the service industry.
They're "tipping" local service industry workers $100 for every car they sell.
They’re calling it the Tip Jar Challenge. Every Friday in May, the dealership will fill up the jar and dole out the money.
Darnell estimates the gratuity will add up to about $13,000 in the month.
“It’s a shame, they still have bills to pay and mouths to feed, and they kind of got left out," Darnell said.
For Darnell, the issue is personal.
“My daughter is in that guild, in the industry," Darnell said. "Having it touch my life with my daughter, I thought, let’s go do this."
He said they’ll take it week by week when deciding which restaurants to give their tips to, focusing on the neediest places first.
