Personal care businesses in Tulsa are beginning to open Friday, along with many other businesses across the city.

Sweet Mia Natural Nail Spa on Cherry Street is one of the nail salons opening Friday.

They said they're already swamped with people booking appointments, and they want to make sure everyone feels safe.

"It was a relief to find out," said Taras Tikhomirov.

Tikhomirov owns Spa Lux near 91st and Memorial.

They offer treatments like massages and facials.

He says they've made big changes since they shut down last month.

"We had to revamp the whole check in check out," he said.

Taped down X's mark where customers have to stand to maintain social distance.

Taras said they've carved out hours of each day to disinfect the spa.

"Every area exposed where clients sit down or touch will be sanitized," said Taras.

Their sauna and steam room will remain closed, employees will wear masks and gloves, and he said they purchased a new UV lamp to turn on when customers are away.

"It kills every living microorganism," he said.

Similar precautions are being taken at Sweet Mia Natural Nail Spa.

Salon owner Quynh Nguyen says all employees are required to wear masks and they're asking customers to wear one as well.

She said clients will have to stay in their cars until it's time for their appointments, and they're limiting the number of people allowed inside to ten at a time.

They're also sanitizing common surfaces people touch and deep cleaning the chairs after each client's appointment.

"Friday and Saturday are booked up," she said. "We even have two clients driving from Arkansas to here."

Other nail salons in the area said they're also seeing incredibly high demand already.

Both businesses said safety comes first.

Personal care businesses have already been able to open across the state since last Friday but not in the city of Tulsa due to the Mayor's safer at home order until Friday May 1.
