While these times have been unique and unprecedented, state officials have been focused on what happens after things return to normal.

“When we get knocked down, we always come back stronger. That’s how we do it in Oklahoma,” Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell told News 9’s Kelly Ogle.

Lt. Pinnell is leading the charge.

“So on the Governor’s solutions task force I am kind of helping lead the recovery effort when it comes to really showing the moral, getting the moral back up in the state of Oklahoma. Really showing that Oklahoma standard.”

For Pinnell, the recovery efforts have already started. They began with businesses thinking outside the box.

“You have stories upon stories of people that have shut down their businesses and have started making PPE,” he explains. “It’s certainly one of the things that we can kind of demonstrate to the rest of the world that this is one of the most inviting states in the country.”

The lieutenant governor also oversees tourism. He fully expects people to be eager to hit the road once the crisis is over.

“I believe that once we get back to work, the tourism industry will be one of the industries that leads the way. We have to create sales tax revenue for cities to be able to operate.”

Pinnell said it paints a great picture for our future.

“I think that will be a message that we’ll be able to deliver as a state moving forward. That will really again help fuel this state, creating that sales tax revenue, helping small businesses come back faster than other states.”
