The Houston family in Bethany made a startling discovery about a week and a half ago under the spot where their garage once stood, parts from a Ford Model T.
Among the parts are a wheel, frame and running board.
The house was built in 1938 and the family thinks the garage was built around the same time, meaning it’s been below ground for around 80 years.
“Used it maybe for landfill, poured the rest of the dirt over it and poured a slab or maybe just filled it with gravel and built some sort of building over the top of it," said Mike Bender, former president of the Model T Club of Tulsa.
While it’s not everyday you find a 100-year-old car buried under your property, Bender said if you do, there’s a good chance it’s a Model T.
Henry Ford produced over 15 million of them from 1908 to 1927.
“You gotta remember, a Model T didn’t last very long," Bender said. "Two, three, four years, they were pretty well wore out and they weren’t worth anything.”
The family said they don’t know what they’re going to do with the parts yet, but they may hang up the wheel in their house.
