El Reno Police Investigate Homicide, Evidence Found In Local Pond

El Reno police continue to investigate a homicide after evidence was uncovered from a pond Tuesday.

The crime was discovered on April 12, when a driver noticed a deceased man left in the street.

“The calling party advised that there was a victim lying in the street bleeding, in the 100 block of North Barker. Officers responded and located the victim, who has now been identified as Robert Meely, and Mr. Meely was deceased at the scene,” said Maj. Kirk Dickerson, assistant police chief of El Reno.

Dickerson and his colleagues at El Reno Police Department have been working to figure out who killed 40-year-old victim.

“We have since identified various persons of interest that have been interviewed at this point. However, no one has been charged,” Dickerson said.

On Tuesday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol dive team recovered evidence from the pond in Legion Park.

“They were successful in locating an item of interest that we were looking for which was a cell phone. They located that cell phone. The potential evidentiary value of that cell phone has not been determined at this time. It will be forensically analyzed and we’ll move forward from there,” Dickerson said.
