A local high school student is ‘Egging and TP’ing’ houses in his neighborhood during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ripley High School Junior Deklyn Wilhelm, 17, and his mom are spending portions of their week during the pandemic driving the streets of Ripley.

In the backseat of the family truck, are the supplies.

“It is crazy,” said Wilhelm. “I never thought that I would be living through something like this.”

President of his newly formed student council, Wilhelm took it upon himself to begin delivering eggs and toilet paper to homes at random. They are the essentials in scary and uncertain times.

“It is just a way to be fun and just bring smiles in a time that is honestly crazy, you wouldn’t expect it, said Wilhelm.

As you can imagine, this kindness has been the talk of this small town.

“I’ve got one wave,” said Wilhelm. ”A friend of mine, his mom posted on Facebook and said ‘I love the student council.’”

“Doing this, it didn’t surprise me to see him because of the good things that I have heard about him,” said Carolyn Grimes, a resident surprised to have her home TP’ed and egged by Wilhelm. “I think it’s wonderful, the little ones look up to him so much. He is such an example for them.”

Wilhelm has challenged other members of student council to do the same, one member has accepted the challenge.

“I have had one (student council member) send me back a video of her going and TP’ing and egging a friend of hers house,” said Wilhelm.

Together they hope to start a movement.

“I would hope that all the other student councils around Oklahoma are able to do the same thing or find some other way inside your neighborhood to just to bring a smile to someone’s face,” said Brian Cagle, a Ripley High School teacher overseeing student council. “If you do that, you’re just being the leader that we all want them to be.”

“I just like making people happy,” said Wilhelm. “So if it makes them happy, it makes me happy.”

Wilhelm said he’ll continue his efforts until many in his neighborhood are back to work.
