The Oklahoma City Fire Department received a special donation Thursday.
The OKC Kennel Club donated several new animal oxygen masks to the department.
“They are used very frequently. So, we know it's a good cause. We know it saves lives,” Maggie Shirk with the OKC Kennel Club said.
The masks came in several shapes for all kinds of house pets.
Using the new equipment, firefighters can save dogs, cats and even rodents or birds.
“It's very traumatic. Families, pets are a part of the family almost like a family member. So, they tend to be very distraught if their pet is hurt or injured or suffers from smoke inhalation,” Lt. Jeff Hanlon said.
