Organizations from across the state are offering volunteers and donations to Picher after a devastating tornado ripped through the town on Saturday.
Feed the Children has helped to quickly facilitate food and clothing donations to the tornado-ravaged town over the last few days. Bottled water, soap and ready-to-eat food were also on-hand for the survivors of Saturday's storms. In total, the relief organization brought a trailer packed with 43,000 pounds of supplies.
The Red Cross is also doing their part to help survivors receive the basic necessities. Carla Young, who coordinated volunteer efforts for the Red Cross, said volunteers were headed to Picher and mental health workers were on standby.
"After the first few days, reality starts setting in and that's when they (the survivors) need some professional guidance," Young said.
The Baptist General Convention also stepped in to help by sending 30 volunteers who provided meals for the victims devastated from the storms.
"It look like a May 3 tornado," volunteer Sam Porter said.
Feed the Children said more trucks will be headed to the town to continue to help with the relief efforts.
