TULSA, Okla. -- Tulsa police say a woman was killed and her husband wounded when they were shot during an attempted robbery in their home early Wednesday.

Lori Kastner, 44, was killed and John Kastner, 50, was wounded in the shooting, said Officer Leland Ashley.

John Kastner awoke shortly after 4 a.m. and found a man in his bedroom demanding money, Ashley said. As he fought with the intruder, both Kastner and his wife were shot, Ashley said. John Kastner was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Lori Kastner was a staff member of the Oklahoma Supreme Court and John Kastner is an English teacher at Tulsa's Webster High School.

A 9-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were in the house at the time but are not injured and are now in protective custody, police said.

Police were searching for a white male in his mid 20s who may have been driving a 1990s model sport-utility vehicle.
