CRESCENT, Okla. - Recent flooding is threatening nearly 200 homes along the Cimarron River in Logan County.
Residents of the Twin Lakes community are keeping a close watch on the river as it continues to erode land near the homes.
In two weeks, the river has washed away a road and most of Jeanneane Taylor's front yard. Taylor and her children are staying at a neighbor's house until they can figure out if their home is safe.
"I want to come home," she said. "I wish it would just stop. [But] I got to keep positive, I have too much else going on right now."
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will not help because, technically there's no damage to the house. Taylor said her homeowner's insurance does not cover ground movement.
The community's board of directors is seeking help before the homes are ruined.
"Our community is just getting destroyed," board member Mike Gilliam said.
The residents are hoping lawmakers can find some extra money to build a wall or barrier that will keep the rough flood waters from hitting the river bank.
