Normally one would find the 12 members of the Breckenridge Volunteer Fire Department fighting fires or helping serve the community. However, this last weekend, this fire department held an ironic fundraiser to help their own needs.
Carrying on a six-year-tradition, the Breckenridge firefighters sold fireworks to help fund their station.
"It kind of started out as something fun and something funny and it just turned into a big deal," Darrin Nickel with the Breckenridge Fire Department said.
The crew said they are busier now than they have ever been.
"This will cover a lot of medical supplies used that the one-tenth sales tax didn't cover," Nickel said.
The stand will be open every day from 10 a.m. until midnight.
