TULSA, Okla. -- Hard hits.
"You see a big block and the crowd's like, ‘oooohh,'" said Glenpool senior Dalton Howeth. "It sets it off right there."
It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it.
"Every play starts with the o-line," said Howeth. "You can't run the ball if you don't block. You can't pass the ball if you don't block."
The Glenpool Warriors take pride and pleasure in its offensive line play.
"Coach (Steve Edwards) rewards us with little stickers every time we get a big block," said Howeth.
"It's always a good to get here on Saturday and get some stickers."
Right now the helmets are shiny and blue but the stickers and scratches can signify a good season.
"You can't live off what you did last year," said Edwards. "We went to the finals last year; it doesn't mean we're going to make it again. We have to ready ourselves again and get prepared that way and that's what's going to give us a chance to be there."
The hardest hit of last season was the one dealt to Glenpool. A loss to Bishop McGuinness in the state title game left the Warriors flat on their back.
"My brothers, my teammates were crying after the game," said Glenpool senior BJ Herring. "It was what we wanted and we came short by four points. We dream about it and have nightmares about it all the time."
"Last year we just came up a little short," said Howeth. "This year we're working a lot harder, we're dedicated and we're going to get that gold ball."
