OKLAHOMA CITY -- Chili dogs, soft drinks, and chips on a Saturday afternoon. Nothing unusual about that. Guys sitting around discussing their high school glory days. Nothing unusual about that. Unless you count the fact that these guys just met.
If it seems like they've known each other for years, it's because, in a way, they have. All of these "friends" met over the internet, in a discussion about southside OKC memories.
The men met up only knowing each other by their internet screen names. "Prunepicker" spends a lot of time doing internet research. "I came across this one about southside memories, and well I lived there...y'know back in the '60s, and it brought back all these memories, so I said, 'I'm gonna stay here for awhile,'" he said.
Another buddy goes by "grantgeneral78." "I just went on it, and, man it started getting addictive," he said. "We started talking about all kinds of stuff -- old memories. Stuff that me and my wife forgot about."
There's one more thing -- they all attended U.S. Grant High School. Their graduation years vary widely, but they seem to share a common experience...that of growing up on the "south side."
"I can't remember the last time I saw someone from Grant, y'know, it's been so long," Prunepicker said. And he's not the only one that feels that way. There's already been some talk of making this "reunion" a monthly thing.
Of course, the meeting will only take place on one "particular" side of town.
