Joey Rogers is used to playing Patriot games. Although he's only a first-year starter, Rogers has spent three years in the Metro Christian system. It's paid off, his 22 touchdown passes lead the state.
"It's just a team effort," said Rogers. "I do what they do, they do what they do. That's how it works out."
Roger's season has been much like Metro Christian's. Both have had surprising success.
"He's been a terrific surprise," said Patriots coach Jared McCoy. "I don't think a lot of people counted on Metro being successful this year. Joey has been terrific. I don't know if surprised is the right word but he's exceeded expectations. We enjoy the success he's having."
"The beginning of the year I just wanted to win and see how I could do," Rogers said. "I never thought I could do what I've done. It's pretty cool."
With only a single loss and a district title in the works, the Patriots are quietly becoming the team to beat.
"I'm not very vocal," Rogers said. "I just try to do what I'm told and hope everybody else does."
