EDMOND, Okla. -- Edmond voters said "no" to paying for a new safety center. The new building would have replaced the current one which is decades old.

Chief Bob Ricks said he is disappointed that the center wasn't approved, but plans to meet with the city council to figure out how to pay for a new building.

"I'm particularly disappointed for the men and women here at the Edmond Police Department because they continue to work in conditions that should not be acceptable," Ricks said.

It looks fine from the outside, but inside the Edmond Police Department is a different story. There's a cramped crime lab, packed evidence room and small jail cells that are often above capacity, but investigators will remain there for the foreseeable future since Edmond voters chose not to fund a new facility.
