OKLAHOMA CITY -- On Thanksgiving, firefighters get the rare opportunity to enjoy the day with family, not at home, but at work.

Working 24-hour shifts with no breaks makes it close to impossible to be home for Thanksgiving..

The firefighters working at Fire Station 18 brought the family to them.

Firefighters got the rare opportunity to carve up the turkey and ham, not just for themselves but their loved ones.

"It's a great time," Corp. Steve Burgan said. "We get to fellowship with all of our friends, get to eat some good food."

In a business where work never stops, Thanksgiving can't be just about family.

The fire fighters are thankful to be able to spend the holiday with their family, those who've given so much to them.

"It's kind of fitting," Batt. Chief Thomas Thurm said. "We get to have Thanksgiving for our families for taking care of us when we're here on the job."

Fortunately, the fire fighters at Station 18 were able to enjoy their entire Thanksgiving Day meal without having to respond to any calls.
