OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police evacuated homes in a northwest side neighborhood Tuesday after a man was arrested for possessing an explosive device.

Police Sgt. Gary Knight says a police bomb squad was searching the house for explosives.

"We're checking the house to make sure there's nothing in there that poses a threat to the public," Knight said.

Knight said 24-year-old Steven Andrew Jordal was arrested Monday evening with an explosive device in his possession after police received a tip that he was making bombs.

"Nice guy, I mean, nothing that would cause you to think that a bomb squad would be necessary to come to the neighborhood," neighbor Zac Coplon said. "It's troublesome to say the least."

Knight said Jordal is in police custody and is being questioned.
