OKLAHOMA CITY -- This winter storm has people all over the metro falling and getting hurt. EMSA transported about 100 people Monday for slip and fall accidents.

A serious injury can happen in an instant. A simple walk outside could land you in the hospital.

Suzi Boydstun learned how deceptive the ice can be when she headed outside to get ice melt from her shed.

"It was just an instant thing; you get comfortable when you get home and think you're safe and that's when you let your guard down," Boydstun said.

Boydstun was on the icy sidewalk when she slipped, fell and broke her wrist.

"I've wanted all my life for this," Boydstun said. "I've never had anything broken, never."

Boydstun was not the only who suffered with a broken bone. On Monday, almost 90 people had to visit Mercy Health Center for slip and fall injuries, setting a record number.

"I can't remember a time we've seen that many in one single day," Dr. Mark Lipe at Mercy Health Center said.

Doctors at Mercy Health Center were flooded by people suffering from ice related injuries.

"If you have to get out, you have to be just extremely cautious getting around," Lipe said.
Dangerous conditions will likely remain throughout the metro until Wednesday.

"If you happen to slip and slide through the sleet the ice is there, it's going to cause you to fall the threat is great," EMSA Operations Supervisor Mike Roy said. "It's still there and we want people to be aware of that."
