Winds Fuel Weekend Fire Near Crescent

CRESCENT, Oklahoma -- High winds fueled a large grass fire north of Crescent Saturday that rekindled Sunday afternoon.

Fire Departments from Guthrie, Kingfisher and Deer Creek responded to the blaze. A total of 26 fire crews helped combat the blaze Saturday.

Logan County Emergency Management Director David Ball said several departments were still battling the blaze Sunday evening on both sides of Highway 74. Ball said the blaze was at least a mile long.

An abandoned historic farm house was destroyed by the blaze in minutes Saturday afternoon.

Windy conditions spread the grassfire four miles long and four miles wide. The blaze burned through the afternoon and early evening Saturday. 

Two firefighters were injured battling the large grass fire in western Logan County. The two firefighters are from the Deer Creek Fire Department. Both were transported to an Oklahoma City hospital.

Both Deer Creek firefighters were released from the hospital. They suffered second-degree burns while trying to save a barn.

The total number of acres destroyed by the blaze is unknown. At least 600 acres were burned Saturday. 

The fire departments are expected to be combating hot spots for several days.
