NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Broken Arrow Police arrested Michael Joseph Childers Friday after OU police reported that the student pulled a gun on a faculty member.

Childers never pulled the trigger before running from the scene before police could arrive.

Within minutes of the incident, President David Boren sent out emergency alerts to students via cell phones and email.

A message rang out for those on campus to hear.

"This is OU President David Boren," Boren said. "An individual who has been identified by witnesses as former student Michael Joseph Childers pointed a gun at a member of the faculty in Kaufman Hall."

News that Police were looking for 27-year-old Michael Childers flooded across campus and places like Facebook where the suspect himself updated his status with this: "Relax, folks. This is post-VT paranoia at its worst. I am a peace-loving goblin."

He pleaded no contest to hacking into an e-mail account last year. Friday afternoon's incident shook up some students near Kaufman Hall where police say it all happened, but the quick alert response did help ease worried minds.

"This never constituted a threat to members of the general university community, but was considered a domestic dispute between two individuals," Boren said.

Childers was taken into police custody. No one was injured in Friday's incident.
