OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City man was killed by police after opening fire against the two officers Monday afternoon, located at 4801 N Woodward Avenue, near Lake Hefner Parkway and NW 50 Street.

Sergeant Gary Kuhn and Officer Bryan Ackerman responded to the scene after receiving a call around 3:21 p.m. about a distressed individual on his front porch outside the home. Fred Hibbert had self-inflicted wounds from a knife and was showing a gun to the police, officers said.

The two officers attempted to talk to the 56-year-old, who in turn fired a shot at them. The two police officers then shot back at Hibbert, hitting him.

Hibbert was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Sgt. Kuhn is a nine-year veteran and Officer Ackerman has been with the department for five years. The officers were not injured during the incident and have been placed on routine Administrative Leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
