SPENCER, Oklahoma – A suspect surrendered after a standoff with the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and Spencer police that lasted almost four hours.

Spencer police were first called to a home in the 8100 block of N.E. 36th Street at about 4 p.m. The homeowner found his back door kicked in and a neighbor saw four possible robbery suspects leave the residence with a large bag full of items and head toward Spencer Road.

The burglary victim then went to a house in the 4100 block of N. Spencer Road to confront the suspects. When the victim arrived at the house he heard gunshots and called 911.

Spencer police went to the second home and found at least four people were inside. Initially three people came out of the home and surrendered. Officer saw a fourth person inside the house who refused to come out.

When officers heard gunshots coming from inside the home, they set up a perimeter and called the OCSO SWAT Team.

The tactical team worked for almost four hours to get the suspect, Howard Irvin, to surrender. The 28-year-old finally surrendered to authorities just before 8 p.m. after the SWAT team deployed several gas canisters inside the home.

Spencer police will handle the investigation of the burglary and charges against the four suspects. Irvin will likely face additional charged on top of the burglary charges.

The names of the other three suspects, two men and one woman, have not been released.
