MULDROW, Oklahoma -- A large hole opened Sunday on an Interstate 40 bridge near Muldrow, forcing the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to shut down traffic for a short time.
Troopers discovered the hole around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Troopers closed the area to traffic, but not before approximately two dozen drivers hit the hole and damaged their vehicles. Several experienced flat tires.
Troopers believe construction on I-40 may have caused the hole.
The interstate was re-opened about an hour later after crews placed a metal plate over the hole.
Oklahoma was recently ranked second in the nation for its bad bridges.
