OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) recently started a voluntary inmate farming program.

The inmates have been preparing the land to start planting vegetables, which will be used to supplement inmate meals at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, and to help reduce the costs of produce.

The OCSO has more than 2 ½ acres of land available for planting.

The goal of this program is to start planting vegetables in August of 2011.

In addition to providing food for the inmates, the program also gives inmates an opportunity to get outside and learn a valuable skill.
