OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police have arrested an18-year-old man accused of driving under the influence and running over a police officer's foot.

On July 30, officers responded to a report of a loud party near N.W. 170th Terrace and Woodvine Drive. When police approached the house, people began running out of the front door. Officers say several people jumped into a white Jeep Wrangler.

Sgt. Charles Schamel walked in front of the Jeep and flashed his flashlight at the driver. Sgt. Schamel says he was trying to get the driver, Jonathan Kraft, to stay put so he could talk to him. Sgt. Schamel says he was about 15 to 20 feet away from the car when Kraft accelerated toward him.

According to the police report, Sgt. Schamel attempted to jump out of the way. As he did so, the Jeep continued to accelerate and just missed the officer. Sgt. Schamel says he hit the Jeep with his hand as it passed to try to get Kraft to stop. Schamel says that's when Kraft turned the car toward where he was standing and ran over his left foot with the driver's side rear tire. The Jeep then continued on and drove onto the street.

Sgt. Schamel says despite his injured foot, he managed to run and get in front of the car. He pulled his gun and pointed it at the car to get the driver to stop.

Police arrested Kraft and booked him into the Oklahoma County Jail. Kraft faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an injury accident, and driving under the influence.

Police also arrested two of his passengers, Matthew Wyatt Milligan and Cody Ryan Coyle. Officers say Milligan and Coyle had a strong odor of alcohol on their breath, and slurred speech. They were arrested for public drunkenness.
