UPDATE: MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – Police responded to a shooting outside of a night club in Midwest City that sent two people to the hospital early Sunday morning.
This happened just after 2 a.m. at "Da Bomb" Club at 6301 S.E. 29th St. Police say two women originally got into a fight over a pool game.
One of the women, later identified by the police as 40-year-old Wendy Whisman from Guthrie, allegedly went out into the parking lot after the fight, when her friend Johnny Ray Hudson got into a fistfight with another man.
According to the police report, Whisman then grabbed a .38 caliber handgun from her car and fired several shots into the crowd. Police say 36-year-old Kathy Wigington and 27-year-old Gregory Martin were both struck by the gunfire.
Wigington was hit in the neck and police say it was originally thought her injuries could be life threatening. She was transported to OU Medical Center where she is listed as stable with no major organ damage.
Martin was shot in the lower left leg and was taken to surgery at Midwest Regional Medical Center.
Police say after the shooting happened, several people beat Whisman to the ground and held her for police. She suffered a broken nose and facial injuries.
Whisman was treated for the injuries before being booked into the Midwest City police department jail. Police say she will be charged with two felony counts of shooting with intent to kill.
According to the police report, Hudson was also arrested for public intoxication.
"Any time you mix alcohol and guns it could be deadly. We were very lucky someone in the crowd was not killed or an innocent person driving down S.E. 29th street didn't get shot," Chief Brandon Clabes said. "We certainly don't encourage vigilante justice but in this case, the crowd was able to disarm and detain our suspect which enhanced our ability to get the situation under control and Whisman in custody."
