OKLAHOMA CITY -- More than a thousand people in the Sooner State took to the street Saturday morning for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

It's all about raising awareness for breast cancer research and treatment. News 9's own Amanda Taylor emceed the event.

More than a million people across the country participated in the race Saturday, but here in Oklahoma it's a celebration of survival for Gabriela Conway–Wolf.

"I just got done with my double mastectomy in June and I have had four treatments of chemo and I lost all my hair but that okay, it's just the road to recovery," Conway–Wolf said.

Conway-Wolf said getting here has been difficult, but she does it in style with a smile.

"The chemo is really hard. I have a really good pain tolerance, but it was just really tough. You don't realize it but your third day you are really down," Conway–Wolf said.

Conway–Wolf has church members and her family, otherwise known as the "Wolf Pack" to be along her side to fight and pick her back up. They all took turns cooking and checking in.

"My family didn't have to worry about making meals and they just catered to me, which I am not used to cause I am the mom and I cater to everyone else. This is my time," Conway–Wolf said before the 5k walk.

It's a cause thousands in Oklahoma have been working to cure. Saturday's walk was for survivors like Conway-Wolf while honoring those who lost their battle to cancer.
