Family, Friends, and Footed PJ's: My Saving Grace
Motherhood has made me appreciate so many things just a little bit more. When my mom came to visit, I knew she would be help, but I never imagined how much. She has been here for 2 weeks now and has cooked, done laundry (which is never ending) and held Gage so that I could take showers and naps. It has been wonderful! I don't even want to think what it's going to be like when she leaves in a week. It's been great to have my dad and sister visit, too – and to see their excitement of being a grandpa and aunt. My friends have been a Godsend as well. My neighbors have come and brought dinners and made sure we don't need anything. And then there are the little things, like the footed pajama. I quickly learned the easier it is to get clothing off in the middle of the night for late night changes, the happier Mommy is! And footed PJ's with a zipper fits the bill (my mom has since gone out and bought me 4 more).
Loving Motherhood… Getting Peed On and All!
I love just gazing at this precious life, which is one reason I wanted to capture his newness with professional pictures. What I didn't count on was getting peed on not once, but twice during the shoot! I have since learned during diaper changes. Thanks to everyone's advice, and some Pee Pee Tee-Pees, I have avoided getting sprayed during a change. But during our photo shoot, we wanted those adorable naked pictures – you know the ones he's going to hate me for when he gets older. Well, holding a naked baby for longer than an hour puts you at great risk! The photographer was having both Nick and me hold Gage when both of us got soaked… oh memories!
Our Other "Children"
For the last 5 years, our only children have been of the furry variety. I was a little concerned on how our dogs, William & Sonoma would react to us bringing a baby into the house. We took a hat that the baby had worn in the hospital home and let the dogs smell it. Sonoma reacted like we thought. She sniffed the baby and went the other way. But it was "Willie" who surprised us. He's always been a loving dog, but he has adopted Gage as his own baby! For the first 3 days, he wouldn't even leave Gage's side – in fact, he didn't eat for 3 day (he's a little chubby, so it was good for him). Now if Gage cries, Willie comes running. It's so sweet!
Enjoying Spring
We've gone on 2 walks so far. It's been just beautiful outside. But today's walk was cut a little short. Just as we got down the street, I heard it. He had just gone poo! (I can't believe you can hear that). Oh well, we'll have many more pretty days to come to walk a little longer.
